Adas Calibration

Calibration is the process of returning a vehicle’s ADAS to OEM specifications Calibration is necessary after a new glass installation or after a collision. It’s to ensure that the ADAS features continue to function properly despite having been moved during installation.

“Five Star Service - Start to Finish.”

I’ve had to have my windshield replaced twice in less than 6 months – thanks Arizona freeways, ugh. I love having a newer car, but it's quite the hassle sometimes with all of the requirements, cameras, sensors, etc. The first time I got my windshield re-calibrated I thought I HAD to go to the dealership, drop my car off and wait all day for it to be done. That wasn’t fun. The second replacement time around, I was thankful to be referred to Jacob at Automotive Technology Services. Instead of having to drop my car off all day long, it was done and ready in just a couple of hours. Jacob has a great shop, and you can tell he takes pride in his work and work space. He explained the whole process as it was being done, and now my car is nice and safe to drive again. Skip the dealership hassle and go to Jacob at Automotive Technology Services. Dude knows what he’s doing!

What Is ADAS?

ADAS stands for “Advanced Driver(s) Assistance Systems”. These systems rely upon cameras, lasers, and radar – often with the camera mounting to the windshield. Any time a new windshield is installed, the camera must be calibrated to ensure proper functionality and to restore the camera to OEM specifications.

Examples of Adas

  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Collision Warning
  • Blind Spot Monitoring
  • Park Assist
  • Automatic Cruise Control
  • Pedestrian Protection
  • Headlights Control

If you don't calibrate

If a car’s ADAS is not properly calibrated, the system may not function safely. If the system on the vehicle is off by even a few millimeters they may not give accurate readings and the system may not function properly. A misaligned camera could jeopardize the functionality of the system and lead to dangerous driving or accidents, so it is crucial that the cameras are aligned perfectly, which is what windshield calibration ensures.

HOW DO I GET MY WINDSHIELD RE-CALIBRATED?

When a windshield is replaced, the camera should be removed from the bracket & unplugged from the car. After the replacement is completed, the camera needs to be reattached & re-calibrated. If this is not performed by the installer, you will have to go to the dealer to have the vehicle calibrated.

We make it easy to get your windshield re-calibrated. The Windshield Calibration Center is one of the only companies in Arizona with the capabilities, technical knowledge and expertise to calibrate the new ADAS windshields safely and properly. It is dangerous to have your windshield replaced and then skip the re-calibration process. Only hire a company that is technically trained and equipped for ADAS windshield re-calibration.

How Long Does Adas Calibration Take?

The calibration process typically takes about 30 to 45 minutes. It can be completed during the same day as your windshield replacement. ATS  uses processes called dynamic calibration, static calibration, or dual (both dynamic and static) which requires the technician to drive the vehicle to calibrate the camera or set up targets for the camera system to read. The technician needs to wait at least 30 minutes for the windshield to set before the calibration process can begin. You should plan to leave your vehicle with us for at least a few hours if you need this service or we can come to your location after the replacement so you don’t even have to lift a finger!
